Children (under 18) and their families are usually seen on an outpatient basis. Approximately 80% of them are severely emotionally disturbed; many come from violent and chaotic backgrounds; others are experiencing the early onset of severe mental illness. Emergency or initial evaluations for this age group are also provided on an outpatient basis.
Adolescents (12-17) who can no longer cope with school may be appropriate for our Spanish Peaks Academy, a program which provides a full academic curriculum and on-going therapy with students and family members.
A clinic for children with the diagnosis of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder has been initiated. The program includes screening and evaluation, confirmation of the diagnosis, visits with the staff psychiatrist, attendance in a Parents and Spirited Children's group, crisis intervention services, and on-going case management.
